Ever since the fall of man in Genesis 3, he has needed a Savior. People lie, cheat, steal and commit many other sins against God. Even if others consider us "good people," we know we've either done something wrong in our life or omitted doing right. All have sinned and need salvation to go to heaven (Romans 3:23) or they will end up in hell.
The Lord is perfect and holy, so much so no one has seen Him in His full glory at any time (John 1:18). As wonderful as Jesus was in walking this earth, He even said no one is good but God (Matthew 19:17). So how do we bridge the gap between fallen people and sinless perfection? Through Christ.
God so loved the world He gave the suffering Savior, Jesus, to die for our sins (Hebrews 10:12). By accepting His perfect sacrifice, we can have eternal life with the Lord as well as greater peace in today's increasingly crazed world. This comes through the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit, the Comforter who proceeds from the Father (John 15:26).
Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." We also must repent of our sins to be converted, forsaking our own way and pledging to follow Christ (Acts 3:19).
If you've come to the end of yourself and know you can't make it without God, it's time for you to pray to receive Jesus. There's no magic chant to it, but here's a petition you can repeat:
"Father God, please forgive me of my sins. I confess Jesus Christ is the only way to be saved. I believe He rose in body & spirit from the dead and lives forever. I will follow Him as Lord & Savior, repenting if I sin. Come into my heart, Lord God, and save me. In Jesus' name, amen."
If you prayed that and meant it, you have entered the family of God! You are a new creation, and the Lord even now is making you into the person whom He, and you, always wanted. Only in Christ can we fully live, move and have our being (Acts 17:28) as well as eternal life.
Don't think, however, that's all there is to the faith. God "is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6), so it's time to press into His Kingdom.
Pray to the Lord about your concerns. Let His peace guide you. Read Scripture (King James and New King James versions are good) to find out more about Him and the new life He's given you. Spend time with other Christians. Get into a Bible-believing and practicing church like our Eternity Now where Jesus is the only way of salvation; His Word is respected, believed and followed; and people are loved personally and honestly. And pursue personal relationship with God, asking Him to reveal Himself to you, showing you who He is, and He will.
